The General Secretary of IRCA Dr. Genti Kruja is elected vice president of the Interreligious Councils of Europe

Secretary General of the Interreligious Council of Albania Dr. Genti Kruja is elected one of the vice presidents of the Interreligious Councils of Europe (European National Interreligious Bodies, Religions for Peace Europe) with a 3-year term.

Interreligious Councils from all over the world are members of the international and interreligious organization “Religions for Peace”[1]founded in 1970 in New York, more than half a century ago.

This organization, structured on the basis of continents, for Europe functions with the full membership of 11 interreligious councils from different countries of Europe, among which the Interreligious Council of Albania, founded 15 years ago in 2007 with the support of “Religions for Peace”. The Center for Europe was in Brussels until last year, while after the reorganization it was transferred to Berlin.

After the restructuring, Board members from all European interreligious councils held a meeting in Rome on December 12, 2021, where they also elected the European Governing Board, as well as drafted statutory changes and internal regulations.

While on January 25, 2022, the first meeting of the new Board of the European Interreligious Councils was held, a meeting in which the President, Vice Presidents, Secretary and treasurer of the Interreligious Councils of Europe (ENIB, Religions for Peace, Europe) were elected.

In these elections, Dr. Luigi De Salvia (Italy) was elected President, vice presidents: Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Naurath (Germany), Dr. Genti Kruja (Albania)[2] and Dr. Marcel Israel (Bulgaria), Secretary Prof. Dr. Joan Hernández-Serret (Spain) and treasurer Rkia Tiar (Belgium). An important point of the proposals and elections of leaders was that they represent different countries and religious beliefs from Europe.

The Interreligious Councils from all over the world for several years have gathered under the umbrella of the largest international and interreligious organization for peace, accredited by the UN, known as “Religions for Peace”, which extends to every continent autonomously. “Religions for Peace, Europe”, operate by four boards: The European Council of Religious Leaders, the European National Interreligious Bodies, the Interreligious Women’s Network and the Interreligious Youth Network.
