The Chairman of the Presidency Council for the period 01.10.2024 to 31 December 2024 was His Beatitude Anastas Janullatos.
He was born on November 4, 1929, in Piraeus, Greece. He was a professor of Religious History (1972-92) and a Dean of the Theological Faculty of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (1983-1986) B.D and Th. D (with the highest honours) and today is Professor Emeritus of the same university. He has been awarded Honorary Doctor of Divinity or Honorary Doctor of Philosophy, Th.D.h.c, D.D hc PhD hc from 19 universities, faculties or university branches (in Greece, USA, Cyprus, Romania, Georgia, Albania, Italy), Correspondent Member (1993 -2005) and Honorary Member (since 2006) of the Athens Academy.
Postgraduate Studies:
History of Religion, Ethnology, at the Universities of Hamburg and Marburg in Germany, (with the postgraduate scholarship of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung Institute). He also studied the world religions, performing trips to the places where they flourished.
As Archbishop of Albania (1992 until today), in extremely difficult circumstances, revived and developed the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, which for 23 years was dissolved. Along with the revitalization work of the Orthodox Church, innovative programs were implemented in the sectors of health, social care, education, rural development, culture and ecology. At the same time, he tried to help ease the many tensions in the Balkans.
He has been repeatedly appointed to distinguished positions in the leadership of international organizations: Moderator of the Committee on Mission and World Evangelization (1984-1991) and of the World Missionary and Evangelization Conference in San Antonio Texas (1989); member of the European Council of Religious Leaders (2003-2010); Vice President of the Conference of European Churches (2003-2009); President of the World Council of Churches (2006-2013); Honorary President of the World Religion Conference on Peace (2006 and on).
He is the author of 24 books (African Religion Research, Theory in Theology and Missions History, Sermons, etc.), including: Islam, a General Look (16 publications), Religious History - Trace from Transcendent Search, Globalism and Orthodoxy, Massaging in the Footsteps of Christ, Up to the Ends of the Earth, Co-existence, In Albania - Cross and Resurrection. He has published over 200 essays and articles with theological and pastoral themes. Studies and articles have been translated into 17 foreign languages.
He was honoured with 27 medals and awards from many Orthodox Churches and various places, such as: "The Great Cross of the Order of Honour of the Republic of Greece" (1997); the Athenagoras Prize for Human Rights (New York, 2011); the award for "The outstanding contribution to the unity of Orthodox peoples" (Moscow, 2005); decoration "Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu" (Tirana, 2010).
Archbishop Anastasios is a profound connoisseur in the field of Religion and Interreligious Dialogue. His Beatitude Anastas Janullatos was for the second time as the President of the IRCA. He was the Chairman of the Presidency Council during the period 01.10.2018 to 31.12.2019. His Beatitude was also the Honorary President of "Religions for Peace International".
